Abstract

It is described that during the field seasons 2012—2018 ecological and geochemical studies of the soil in the preferred nesting habitats of species of passerine birds (Passeriformes) in the Ulyanovsk region (Middle Volga region) were carried out. The features of the geochemical and mechanical composition of the soil in the nesting area where the birds build their nests were investigated. The preferences of various species of songbirds in choosing a nesting site and nesting substrate — the type, composition, and nature of the soil — are revealed.
