Abstract

In the article using the concept of an ecological niche, the situation of Russian cities with a population of more than 250 thousand people from 1939 to 2010 in the factor space are analyzed. The climatic factors are the factor space — “Average temperature of January, оС” and “Average temperature of July, оС”. The basis of the population data are the census data conducted in the USSR and Russia in 1939, 1950, 1970, 1979, 1989, 2002, 2010. For each year, ecological niches of Russian cities with a population of more than 250 thousand people were built and their dynamics studied. The ranges of “Average temperature of January, °С” and “Average temperature of July, °С”, as well as the amplitudes and optimal values within which there are cities in Russia with a population of more than 250 thousand people, were calculated and analyzed.
