Abstract

The paper deals with the basic principles and techniques of planning and design of cities and urban regions. The main idea is to consider the city as a unity of nature and architecture. The authors believe that compliance with these principles in spatial development strategies and documents of territorial planning of cities, urban zoning and planning projects allows to implement the most advanced achievements of urban development. Realisation of these methods allows to stimulate the creation of a developed environmental infrastructure and helps to achieve a balance between urban development and the surrounding landscapes. A well-planned city can not only resist, but also strengthen its stability to internal and external factors. The key goal of urban planning is to create a smart/resilient city. The resilient city is able to fully perform environmental, social and economic functions with minimal impact on the environment.
