TO THE GEOCHEMISTRY OF NESTING HABITATS OF "YELLOW" WAGTAILS (PASSERIFORMES, MOTACILLIDAE) IN THE ULYANOVSK REGION (MIDDLE VOLGA REGION)

Abstract

During the field seasons 2012—2017 ecological and geochemical studies of the soil in the preferred nesting biotopes of the species of the group of yellow wagtails Motacillaflava, Motacillalutea, Motacillacitreola in the Ulyanovsk region (Middle Volga region). Specific features of the mechanical and geochemical composition of the soil were studied, which is used by birds to construct a nest fossa and a nest, as a result of which their preferences in choosing a nesting substrate were revealed: the soil should be sufficiently fertile, with high organic content, uncontaminated with heavy metals and loose (sandy loam and light loam).
