Abstract

This article describes results of research of breeding bird population in three woodland parks in Nizhny Novgorod fulfilled in 2012—2015. Examined urban parks are unique areas of broad-leaved forests and have rank of protected areas. The main overall indices (species richness, abundance etc.) and characteristics (dominant, tiered distribution) of ornithological complexes were analyzed. The total number of observed birds was 88, and 6 species included in the Red Book of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Max values of species richness and biodiversity were recorded for the population of birds in “Koposovskaya Dubrava” oakwood (urban forest). The study showed that species of forest margins, nesting hollows of the trees and forest crown, and typical forest birds, dominated in all kinds of the parks.
