Abstract

The article considers the new approach to sustainable management of underwater landscapes in the area of construction of “Lakhta Center” business-centre in the Neva Bay started in 2011. The study showed that the area of construction belongs to the zone of potentially moderate geological risk. The analysis of the coastal zone state and studies of the underwater area of the north coast of the Neva Bay showed that the area of construction will become the most stable biotope in the region, forming balanced coastal ecosystems and the project has no additional ecological risks to the coastal zone. Construction of the Lakhta Center “Iconic building” and the associated infrastructure on the artificially formed territory should represent a new idea in urban planning in the coastal zone.

Keywords

Lakhta-Center, dredging, underwater landscapes, sustainable ecosystems.
