Abstract

The article shows the bursting increase of garbage in the cities, which makes the problem of its utilization and storage very relevant. Since in Russia in 90 % of cases the solid household wastes (garbage) are transported to landfills, the article presents the methods of garbage storage, neutralization and dumping in these specially organized facilities. In particular the article examines harm to the environment caused by the landfills (biogas, air and ground water pollution, the spread of rodents, etc.), including methods of its neutralization. It was found that the placement of the landfill and its geological and natural features play a key role in the organization of the landfill. It is shown that spontaneous as well as authorized, but poorly organized landfills particularly cause the negative impact on the environment. Also the parameters of the organization of landfills for toxic waste are presented.
