Abstract

In the industrial-active zone of Kursk the evaluation of snow cover contamination with heavy metals was carried out, and their content in the solid phase of snow (dust) was also determined. Based on the amount of the dust in the snow and the concentration of heavy metals in the dust their content in the atmospheric air was calculated. In the result of the study it was established that the city district situated in the western direction near the factories of industrial zone and in the north-western direction up to 800 m from it was characterized by the maximum level of contamination. The calculations of complex indexes in those areas allowed to establish that the level of the snow contamination was characterized as moderate, a high content of heavy metals in the dust, increased and high indexes of atmospheric con¬tamination were marked. Priority contaminants in the snow were such heavy metals as lead and cad¬mium; in the dust they were lead, cadmium, zinc and nickel, in the atmospheric air the contaminants were lead and cadmium.
